An interview with my son.

Absent Minded Wolf is an Indie Artist who released his single “Long Fall” last month and it’s garnering attention and buzz internationally. A singer songwriter with a background in the recording arts, Absent Minded Wolf utilizes his many skills in the studio. He is here with us today to talk about his creative process and how he takes his lyrics, breathes life into them through rhythmic guitar chords and layered instrumentation.

Welcome to Substack. Can you tell us a little bit about your new single and what it means to you to have launched it out into the world.

ABW: “Long Fall” is about the sobering feeling of reality. We cope with distractions and disillusioned self serving thoughts daily. Buying the version of truth to who your deceiver is selling is often swallowing the real truth. Whether it’s being deceived by a partner, authoritative figure, business, government, or a loved one. We tend to go with the less painful storyline out of comfort and fear of change.

How long have you been playing guitar?

ABW: When I was 17, I was put on probation and my mother had bought me an acoustic guitar and it was my only source of freedom without a car.

When did you write your first song?

ABW: I was 18 and I wrote a song called “Walking Away.”

I like the vocals on Long Fall a lot but as a writer lyrics are important to me. I relate to the imagery of your words…this line grabbed my attention, “Long Fall from Way up High” what does that mean to you?

ABW: It’s about the withdrawal of something comfortable. Slowly waking up from the fog you were trapped in out of comfort and fear.

The guitar is interesting to me, it’s driving the song but like you used it as foundational layer and the lyrics float on top of it…giving equal parts edge and space, the result is futuristic and a sound that seems other worldly.

ABW: Thank you, that’s what I’m looking to do with this project. Capture the feeling of being in between two worlds or realities.

I’m a longtime guitar girl who grew up loving all the dudes who could play lead, bass or even a “picker” who are some of your favorites?

ABW: Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Ted Nugent, Santana, and John Mayer. Although I would say John Lennon has had the most impact on me as a guitar player and song writer.
